i have a 2000 subaru forester and it is doing something weird. The right cv axel was replaced about a year ago at the dealership. about two weeks ago it started thumping on the right side, the side that has been fixed. the noise has gotten worse. when you accelarate it dont make a noise when you let of the gas it bangs and shutters. today i had to take it of the road because it got so bad it busted 3 lug nuts. is the problem the cv axel or in the transmission?

If you have busted lug nuts, you have other problems. The CV axle shaft should not cause the wheel studs to break. A loose wheel bearing would be a more likely cause and that's even hard to believe! You may have a loose ball joint, or inner tie rod...and you probably should take it somewhere to have an experienced technician look at it.
Good luck to you!
You didn't mention how many miles were on the Forrester, but I've never heard of a bad cv joint busting off lug nuts. I would suspect maybe the wheel bearing or something in the outer hub being out of kilter. Compared to a lot of other car parts for the Subaru, the half shafts are not that expensive.
Good luck.
you nub the forester.... :/
