i just bought a 1993 jeep grand cherokee, it was hard to start but it was cold and had been sitting for awhile so i figured the battery might have been almost dead. Once i started getting up to highway speeds if i accelerate slowly it runs very rough, if i accelerate hard it seems to be fine. when im in gear and stopped at a light it seems like it wants to stall, the voltage to the battery drops off so i think that might be the alternator for that partbut im not sure. I thought i got a good deal...i dont think i did

I had one of those, the coil wire had gone bad and was sparking at the coil causing problems. If the plug wires look really old I would replace in the following order, plugs and wires, rotor and cap. How many miles are on it?
If it is carbureted, it could be the choke sticking.
Or maybe a vacuum leak somewhere. But it could also be in need of some new spark plugs.
Amazing what a new set of plugs can do.
A good tune up might fix the problem. New plugs, maybe new wires, and timing set.
If still runs rough, dig into the carb....a rebuild kit will help.
If fuel injected, then it could be a sensor, such as the coolant sensor gone bad. It adds MORE gas when cold, to keep engine running...and then tells computer to go to "normal" mode and the gas is then reduced.
But if bad, it will keep adding gas, even when hot. So...it would then run, as if "choked"....getting too much gas.
Have it checked out.
a rigidity verify will help out here and this needs to be finished at a transmission save or somebody that knows the thank you to do it properly by way of fact it would desire to be a shift solenoid concern
See if the choke is working properly.
