I'm looking for a good 6 speed transmission compared to a 5 speed overdrive. I don't know too much about transmissions (I'm more of a truck guy) but I plan on putting together an older car within the next 5 or so years, and I wanna keep my eye out for a good 6 speed.
I plan on putting it behind a good 302 or maybe a 351w, but one way or another a good strong ford small block. 2.71:1 rear end, and i just have to have a 6-speed stick. Has to be manual.
I'm looking for about 0.8500:1 or so for a final drive ratio, but i would settle for anything below 1.00:1 in 6th.
Any suggestions?

A typical 6 speed will have pretty deep overdrive gear, usually .72 or taller. The T56 used in the Viper/Corvette has something like a .59 6th gear. With a 2.71 rear end you'll be lugging the engine at highway speeds in 6th gear. I would consider going to something like a 3.55 rear end or shorter if you insist on the 6 speed. Otherwise a 5 speed with a moderate overdrive gear will suit your car better.
Plus thier are really no cars with 6 spd tranny, only 2 i can think of are the new GT500 mustang and the SVT Focus but thats for a 4cyl. aftermarket is your best bet if you insist but thier what $2800 or a previously stated nothing wrond with a T5 from mustang 5 spd they can handle plenty of power and they make kits to strengthen 3rd gear cause thats tier weak spot
