Update:Maybe Lipoic acid is a category which divides into alpha, beta, etc. Wtih alpha-Lipoic-acid being the most potent anti-oxidant and mercury removal from the brain!

No difference...two names for the same compound.
It is the sulfur moiety that is the chelator.
