I don't have a lot of space in my room (or a lot of money), but I need a place (in my room, not the bed, to do homework. And a place to store my books (about 30 or so). Any ideas?
Early in my career my senior partner lost the lease to a furnished office and I was abruptly forced to find quarters of my own. My reception desk was a hollow core door propped on one side by a two drawer case and on the other by a fireproof file. Fortunately they were the same height.
Thirty two years later I still have the door which is by now covered with splashed paint, saw cuts, hammer marks, and sundry scratches, but supported by two sawhorses, it still makes a serviceable desk.

Ikea makes a computer desk that is 41" wide and 20" deep with shelves above the desk area and a space for a CPU. It isn't even too expensive.

There are also corner desks available from WalMart that cost about $60. You could hand shelves over that for your books.
