Hello! My name is John and I live in Maryland, I work in a Spa and sign an agreement as an independent contractor. But everything I do in the spa would classified as an employee. I was hurt yesterday from my job and was taken to emergency room. Hospital gave me Workman's Comp and ask me to get Work Comp insurance from my boss. I was told that because I am an Independent Contractor that I would have to provide my own workman's comp insurance. and that i am not cover at all. My head, neck and lower back really hurts. I don't have health insurance, what can I do? Am I consider an Independent Contractor or an Employee? Can I still file for Workman Comp? Should I retain an Attorney? Please help!

They signed you as an independent contractor to avoid Worker's Comp, matching SS payments, and unemployment insurance.
You're toast..
