can you ever make an aussie calm? i know all those aussie owners have large farms and fields for the dogs to run in but if the dog adapted to a home life, could they be calmer than dogs use to the outdoors?
and i dont have a dog
i dont plan to shove a dog in a crate for a few days and see if that works (thats just cruel)

Yama--I don't know about you....one day you don't have a dog but are thinking about getting an Aussie, the next day you have an Aussie pup that is out of control & destructive, today again you say you don't have a dog.
So I can't really take your questions too seriously.
The dog just needs exercise thats all. That is, 2-3 mile dog walks at least once a day. As well as outdoor time for play and potty breaks. No dog should be left in a crate for more than a few hours at a time.
I would lookup the breed. All dogs can get anxious without daily outdoor exercise. I have a 16 year old shih tzu and a 2 yr old Husky...they both love to go for walks everyday. Keeps them happy and calm...remember, everyday, that is the secret.
I think calm is really not the right word you are looking for. With proper exercise an aussie could live in a city, hopefully you at least have a fenced yard for the dog. But, they are bred to be working dogs and have lots of energy. If you properly channel that energy, an aussie can make you a great pet.
I have an Aussie Shep. (pure breed) and I live in a small house with a decent backyard. She is a good dog..Only barks when a stranger is at the door....goes out to play twice a day for 15 minutes. My house is small but she listens when i tell her to go lay down...she loves attention and sometimes gets annoying when she whines...other than that she is smart and I wouldn't have her any other way. She is used to my home and yard. If she needed to be calmer I would have the VET give me medication for it. She loves to ride in the car and is good in the back seat looking out the window.
She is now 9 years old.
My second oldest dog is an australian shepard mix with a golden lab. She is ridiculously hyper except when she is sleeping. There are times we can get her to calm down and there are times when it does not matter what we do. They definitely need to be outside and allowed to run around as often as possible. Our dogs have a huge yard and they chase each other around and tire themselves out. And our dog is only part australian shepard, I cannot imagine a full-bred. Regardless, these dogs need a large area to run around in and I do not believe they can ever fully be house dogs. Our dogs spend their days outside, when the weather permits, and their evenings inside with us. It works out well.
They are working dogs. They are calm at times, but that's after they have had lots of exercise. If you don't have a couple acres like some do. Just do agility with the dog. Its a great activity to get their mind going, and keep them in great shape. They need some type of "job" to do.
• Herding
• Agility
• Take them on walks with a water pack on their back
they need something to do.
spend some more time with it like in a peaceful place then he can relax and get to know you as theyre buddy

You appear incapable, since you're utterly clueless about crate training. You might be able to handle a goldfish.
