I have my AOS interview in less then 2 weeks. My husband, my son and I went last week to my home country embassy to renew my passport. I applied for the 1 year passport (arrived today) and for the 10 year passport ( arrives in 5-6 weeks). I had to give them my old passport. They did tell me I will get it back with my passport. It did not come today. Now I am afraid that it will take 5-6 weeks to get here.
I have copies of all my documents in the passport. Passport page, visa and I-94. Everything is notarized. Will that be enough for the USCIS office to stamp my new 1 year passport so I would be able to visit my family for christmas? I haven't seen them in almost 7 years and I was really excited to go! It brings tears to my eyes thinking it could go wrong because of something like this.
Please help!

Your will NEED your original old passport with the visa, the entry stamp, and the I-94 inside at the AoS interview! Without this passport you cannot prove that you entered the United States with inspection and when and where, and your AoS petition will be denied, or, if you get super lucky, you'll get an RFE and have a few weeks to submit it.
Why would you order a new passport while you are waiting for your AoS interview? You could not wait another 2 or 3 weeks? Really?
The USCIS never stamps a new passport. Even if everything is in order and went perfectly, you will never be approved on the spot. You'll be send home with the remark that they will contact you shortly. About 2 weeks later you would have your Green Card in the mail. However, without your old passport this is not going to happen.
