bad usb port on laptop?
My usb port won't recognize anything plugged into it. I had an optical mouse and an external hardrive. All of a sudden today it stopped recognizing both ports. In device manager I have several options...4 usb root hub...then usb host controllers 24c2,24c4,24c7, and usb 2.0 host controller 24cd. should i update all these drivers? or uninstall and install again. I'm pretty new to this?

Restart your computer and get into the BIOS. Depending on what happened it may have been disabled in here. I've had that happen before.
those ports are integrated into the equipment board and are not serviceable. in case you have extra effective than one port, with any luck you do, then you definately can get a USB hub which will enable you to advance as much as 127 units on a chain.
