How many of you own dogs that you would like to correct at least ONE behavior? This can include barking, chewing, biting, growling, housebreaking, ANYTHING!
My dog has a pretty severe seperation anxiety problem that we've been working on gradually. Anytime I have to leave the house outside of the "normal" schedule (ie: leaving in the morning to go to work) - she barks and whines the whole time I'm gone.
She had been doing really well being left out of the crate for a while, but she then she started scratching at the doors and carpet, so she's back in the crate again anytime I leave the house.
Other than being a very hyper dog (she's a 3yr old basenji/shepherd mix) - she's fairly well behaved. She barks 2-3 times when someone knocks on the door, just to let us know someone's there. Really all of her behavioral problems link back directly to being so energetic. She gets excited about things and forgets to pay attention to her training.
I'm just hoping that being patient and consistent with her training will yield the results I want.
Can I chose all the above? My dog is so out of control.... She even back talks me in her own special little way.... If I tell her no.... Well She just barks at me and continues with what she is doing that is wrong...
Barking! Oh my it can be really frightening to some people. Both of my rotts bark at people walking by the house etc. I know they are warning, but I am working on getting them to stop right after I have acknowledged the "threat" I say thanks, or okay guys... Then after they know I'm alerted they should stop. Its getting better- after 4 months being alerted!!LOL
Reading these answers has reminded me more than ever how truly lucky I am with my 3! I can honestly say there's only 1 thing I'd change if I could and that's to turn by oldest boy's age back to about 3 - but as for behaviour - not one thing!
seeing that it looks like you have the problem here is what we did with bandit.
housebreaking>rub nose in soiled spot and say no and take him out after eating and before bed
chewing>big raw hide bones and hide shoes, paper anything else that attracts chewing. i let bandit destroy empty plastic pop bottles (fun to watch him chase it) and empty paper towel tubes
barking>cant stop the barking all together but you can train so he can bark quieter and loud. we always said quiet bark and bandit would bark quieter strange i know
biting and growling>territory thing. let him have one area that is his for space and dont invade it
I GOT A DOG FROM THE LOCAL HUMANE SOCIETY AND SHE WOULD ALWAYS TAKE OFF AND BARK IF WE WERE NOT IN HER SIGHT..I GOT A SHOCK COLLAR BUT NEVER SHOCKED HER ONLY HAD TO TONE HER A FEW TIMES..SHE IS A VERY OBEDIENT DOG NOW..DOES NOT LEAVE THE YARD AND HARDLY EVER BARKS..WORKS GREAT!!
my dog, whines a lot and barks, but hes getting better at the barking...plus he pulls on the leash and it annoys the crap out of me...but working on that too
Umm......I would say my dog has problems with how rowdy she is. No matter who it is, as soon as someone walks through the door she thinks she needs to jump all over them. And her licking...................uuuugggggghhhhhh. It drives me crazy. If I let her, she would cover my entire hand before I was even able to sit down from coming home.

I would love to stop my dog from "leaping" around my house, onto my bed and couches! She gets crazy sometimes!
