I'm trying to take video from an olympus xd picture card and put it on my computer (windows xp). My computer has a place to stick the card in and I have tried several times to put the card in and yet the computer doesn't recognize that there is something there. It doesn't regester that something has been plugged in when I check the my computer thing. I've lost the cord for the camera so is there any suggestions that could make the video go from my camera to the laptop via the card?
Update:I tried the card on another computer and it worked just fine. The card slot on the other computer says the same thing as the card slot on mine (sd, ms, ms pro, mmc, XD).

Did you reboot the computer? That is always the first step because it tends to fix so many problems.
If that didn't do it, I assume the card reader is faulty.
Buy a little USB card reader - they are very cheap and widely available.
Chances are the computer's media card is the more-common SD card size and not the XD. I've got a few XD cards myself and had to use an external media card reader for my computers.
Stop what you're doing now. Your XD card is rattling around in the larger SD slot and can short out some of the connections.
XP is so outdated. I once had it. I'm guessing the little slot for the card is, the wrong size for the car. But if your computer has usb ports, just leave the card in the camera, and connect the camera with its usb cable into one of those usb ports.
Looks like the card slot on your computer might be broken or damaged in some way. It only needs a small knock to one of the contacts to make it unusable.
You need a usb card reader that supports xD cards.
