So my boyfriend who I live with got laid off at the beginning of June. But was considered a employ until August 31st. With full benefits and pay. And Then a serveance pay after that until September 8th. Well last week my boyfriend did not get his check in the mail and it was because we had just moved into our new place and had a change of address and the employer thought that someone was trying to take his check, they said that they would send it the next day UPS. So the next day rolls around and we check the mail and lucky for us the check is there so now we can pay our bills. We put the check in the bank and then we pay our bills. Later another check came to our door UPS , but we was planning to send it back because we had already put the other one in the bank. 2 days pasted. Well last night we checked his account online to see where we were standing and it says -650 bucks. Come to find out his employer put a void on the check and made everything in our account bounce. He called his employer today to ask what was going on and they said he's just **** outta luck and is not getting paid. WTF???????? What can he do????
Update:need a lot of data;
was his employer one that went bankrupt and who the
referee permitted salary debts to disappear? No, They was just getting rid of the area. So the entire area got laid off and everyone got there check but him because we had a change of address and he deposited the first check into his back when he was suppose to use the second. how was we supposed to know.
was there any fraud committed by anyone? No
Is this all in the USA? Yes.
And both checks have been voided at this point.

have him visit the employer, and have a hidden tape recorder on
and see what's up.
Two words - Labor board! Something weird going on and this may not be a fight you can win by yourself.
Take the check with you to the bank direct, do not deposit it! Have the bank make you a copy of the front and back of the check, then cash it right there and deposit the money into your account.
Then get a copy if you can of the previous check you deposited from the employer and with both copies go to the labor board.
