I am going to be a college freshman in the fall. I am confident in my commitment and abilities concerning academics. I don't want to come off as vain but I feel strongly that I will do very well in college. Is it likely that a top student from a state school (I'm not in-state) could get into one of the nation's highest law programs? I don't necessarily mean an Ivy but I wouldn't rule any out. Do you know anyone personally who has been in a similar situation, and how did it turn out?

A former co-worker of mine graduated from UConn and is attending Columbia Law School.
The prestige of your undergraduate institution plays a surprisingly small role. Your GPA in college and LSAT score are the two most important factors. In the case of my co-worker, he had an amazing LSAT score (well into the 99th percentile) and a slightly above average GPA.
Best of luck to you!
You can be admitted to a top law school if you have nearly a 4.0 GPA and an LSAT score above the 98th percentile and you might be admitted with slightly lower numbers.
