my employer and i have a contract that means i have 30 hours a week monday to friday. now they want to cut my hours to 10 cause they are having financial difficulties. is there anything i can do to stop this? the contract has there signature on it and means a minimum of 30 hours at least. any ideas?

Yes you may sue if they do not fulfill a contract. simply say no and inform them they must abide by contract.
Just think about it...if they cant afford to pay you how can they keep you in their employ. telephone ACAS and ask them to interveine. However, any move like this, even with the best of intentions or motives could mean the sack in your case.
