I used my regular TV & cable through Cox with my Tivo. as long as you don't have pay channels, you won't need a converter box.

I don't know for sure, but Tivo requires a card to work and if I'm not mistaken COX I balieve works with Dish Network. But don't hold me to that.

If your paying for cable, yes.. If you don't have cable than no.
