hi l have a eu rail pass and l have been told by my travel agent that l could get there by rail
but someone told me today that l could not!
is this true please help

You can't. I thought you could too, but I just looked it up on Dubrovnik's tourism website, and there's no rail link to it. They suggest getting the train to Zagreb, Ploče or Split and then getting the bus from there to Dubrovnik.
no worries ! you can travel to Split and then take a day trip by ferry to dubrovnik (it's a bit more expensive than the bus, but really worth wile because the ferry stops on Hvar island & korcula. Just make sure to take something to eat because the food on the ferry is quite expensive and not much choice.
