I am currently trying to reformat my computer. The instruction manual says to press the F1 key when I see a black screen with the Compaq logo on it during startup, and this will take me to the BIOS setup screen. However, at startup, I don't see the Compaq screen at all, just the windows XP loading screen. I tried pressing F1 but nothing happens. Please someone help!!!

It really depends on your manufacturer's settings. There should be a little message right when your computer boots up that says press F"some number" where "some number" would be a number accompanying the F, for example mine is F2 and I have an Acer. this will bring up the Bios settings, but watch out this message is only for a few seconds so you have to be quick. You might have to reboot a couple of times to be quick enough to see the message and press it, so if you want to skip booting up, just hold down the power key, this will do a force shut down of your computer.
