First, try kerryjonjon's suggestion to see if it's a corrupt profile. If not, a repair install may work. Assuming you have XP, boot off the install CD. Follow the instructions as if you were doing a fresh install. It will (hopefully) find the current XP install and ask you if you want to install a new copy or repair this copy. Select repair and follow the instructions. This will go through and replace system files that may have been corrupted or deleted.

maybe your user profile got corrupted, try logging in as guest and if that ok you could create a new profile for you as admin and log in on that one then delete original one. If guest works ok then its user profile problems
