Which one do you think I should get? I was thinking about getting the D40 at first, but I saw how grainy the pictures were. Then, I looked at the D60 pics and I saw they were OK. The D80 and D90 pictures are great. They look superb...
However, I saw all these images on Nikon's site, so I'm not exactly sure if it's the camera or the type of lens they were using. It's possible that they used a superior lens on a superior camera.
Then on amazon.com, I saw a great deal on the Nikon D80.

This one costs only 800 dollars and it comes with a 18-135 mm Zoom Lens.
Great deal.
However, I was wondering if I was better going with the D40 or D60 and upgrading lenses, or getting a superior model?
For the record, I was interested in doing a lot of focus shots. Is the D40 or D60 good for that?

I recently bought the D80 and I love it. I know the D40 is a manual camera. Meaning you'll have to buy a auto focus lens for the camera to auto focus. If you have a non auto focus lens, you'll have to manually focus on your subject.
When I bought my d80 it also came with the 18-135mm. So far I like that lens. No problems with it. My husband also likes it, as we also upgraded his camera to the d80.
I don't know much about the d60 or d90. One thing I didn't like about the d60 is (if I remember correctly) it only had 3 focus points.
Photos that look grainy would be noise. Noise is caused by a high ISO or lower shutter speed. You will get noise in all digital cameras (depending what your settings are...you can see alot or little).
Now I just check out nikon websites and the pictures for the d40 I don't find grainy. I can guarantee the photos on nikon's website to show for each camera were taken by a professional and not using a poor lens.
first element to evaluate is how plenty photos experience you have...is this your first DSLR? if so...and you have a funds of around $800...i could start up off with the D40 and spend something on some incredible nikon lenses designed for particular pictures. the D40 isn't a toy..its probable certainly one of thee maximum suitable dslr starters around. and maximum professionals might actually help already know...its the lens that takes the image. take some image training and actually learn and prepare the thank you to apply the cameras handbook valuable properties. Then as quickly as you obtain some experience decrease than your belt...you may consistently improve to the D80 or D90 (Nikon has introduced that the D80 would be available properly into 2009) and those high quality severe-end lenses you obtain can nevertheless be utilized on your upgraded Nikon. Now you obtain skills, a prosumer DSLR, and a bag of severe-end lenses! i comprehend many Nikon vendors who've the D80 or perhaps D3, D300 professional cameras, yet they keep their D40 for fast pictures and portability on trip trips and relatives activities.
The Nikon D80 is the best hands down. The D90 has video recording crammed into it. Because it is the first of its kind I would not get it. Also because the ISO only goes as low as 200.
