It depends what the problem is. Sudden crashes usually mean hardware. If it's failed hardware, you need to isolate the failed component and replace it. However, that may cost more than a cheap new laptop.
Every file present in your registry contains a command or direction for every program and application on your computer. Registry files are the files that give your computer the instructions for what to do next. If these registry files get corrupt or misplaced, your computer fails to understand what to do. In these instances, your computer loses control, eventually leading to a crash. At this stage the priority is to fix these registry files. In such situations it is suggested that you do not try to fix the registry yourself. Immediately find registry cleaner software and scan your computer to locate any errors. This software will identify all the missing entries or errors, restoring them right away. In many cases, your computer will be back to normal. It is recommended that you run this software once a month for best results. I should like to commend Registry Easy http://cleanup-comuter-run-perfectly.com/

Well, in this case, you should probably run Linux on that computer. It uses less system resources, has less bugs, doesn't crash (beyond the point of applications, I suppose you could crash it if you modified an important system file.), and has great customization. I recommend Ubuntu or Kubuntu (Kubuntu has more of a Windows feel and look to it.)
If you have access to another computer, get a blank DVD and download a copy of k/ubuntu from either www.ubuntu.org or www.kubuntu.org. Then you need to download ImgBurn from www.imgburn.com and locate the .iso file you downloaded from either ubuntu or kubuntu and burn it on to the DVD.
time for a new one ??
