Interchangeable lenses (DSLR and Nikon 1) are covered by their own warranties. Lenses that are permanently attached to a camera (point and shoot), are covered by the camera warranty.
However, no manufacturer, whether it be Nikon, Canon, or anyone else will cover a broken lens unless it is a manufacturing defect.

Not if you broke it. I've owned Nikon lens since 1986, and not one of them have ever failed on me.
Warranties cover only factory defects not product abuse.
