I was wondering if laptops with dual core processors ever function as if they had one core; that is, in times of low battery life or as a power-saving option, if the dual core ability of laptops is ever shut down? This question comes in light of slow laptop speeds I have experienced with my Core 2 Duo laptop while on battery. Does the system slow the clock down or use only one core while on battery? Thanks in advance.

It might slow clock down if your settings are set to do so, but otherwise they shouldnt. a Dual Core processor is much more efficient than anything before it - even with 2 cores running. Check your bios settings and windows settings.
If you can, find a benchmarking program and/or a diagnostic program such as si-soft sandra and run comparisson checks.
It is not 'normal' for dual cores to slow down...
properly they at the instant are not even close in speeds. A a million.6ghz center 2 Duo is as speedy a three.0ghz pentium and don't even seem at a celeron processor. The center 2 Duo are the quickest you are able to rather get with a pc. f you're searching for for velocity and you have the money do no longer pass low-value with the processor. Get something with a center 2 Duo and a minimum of 2gb or ram for Vista, until you have a duplicate of homestead windows XP laying around, they do no longer sell XP anymore :(
Yes, mobile versions of processors have stepped performance, which matches the demands of the machine. This helps reduce heat but most importantly power consumption.
When plugged into the mains many of the power saving features will switch off, making your machine run faster.
I just came across a site that sends you a laptop for free! I'm ordering mine right now, it's a Sony VAIO and it looks really hot!
Me no know.
