I'm going to be building a gaming PC within the next 3-5 months and I wanted to know how noticeable the performance was between dual and quad core processors. And what is the price difference between say a dual and a quad with the same speed? And I heard quad core processors prices will be coming down soon, is that true?

the q6600 is a great processor for only $200 and performs better than the e8500 which is the same priced dual core
There are 2 different chips here. The Pentuim D and the Core 2 duo are just like the Core 2 Quad and the Core 2 Extreme. As you know the Core 2 duo's way out perform the Pentium D's and well as the Core 2 Extremes are way better than the Core 2 Quads... The Core 2 Extremes are 1000$ though. Eventually all cpu prices will come down, but that's because something better is out there and you might as well just get that then :)
i've owned a phenom X4 for about 3 weeks now, and i'm getting really sick of the overheating problems. i checked the intel forums, and it seems just as bad for the quads on that side.
i'm really thinking i should have gone with my first choice, an AMD 64 X2. 6400: 3.0 ghz, fully utilized dual cores.
What's happening to me:
When the chip is fully powered, it overheats almost instantly for the most basic applications.
When it's underpowered, the temperature is decent, but if I wanted a 2 cores at 2.4 ghz, i could have got a 3 year old chip.
So what i'm begining to realize is that i'm in a catch 22: if i activate the full power of the chip, it overheats; if i cripple myself intentionally, why the heck should I have purchased a quad core in the first place?
i'm trying to find some cooling solutions now, but really, if i have to pay extra to get it running at bare minimum and never use all 4 cores, why should i?
frequently, Intel and AMD processors require diverse Motherboard setups to artwork, so in case you're upgrading from an AMD to an Intel odds are you will could purchase an entire-new motherboard. i could flow with the a million.7 quad center. the version is you get the equivelant of four a million.7 processors as a substitute of two a million.9. you ought to use quad center to assign diverse initiatives to diverse processors - e.g. you have got homestead windows initiatives run by cores a million and a couple of and then assign 2 different processors to gaming. - greater suited processing distribution. in case you prefer to do "extreme gaming" you will prefer a minimum of two.0 + quad center to maintain up. 4mb ram is wonderful, as quickly as you get above 6 you particularly do no longer see a difference.
quad core processors are more expensive than dual core processors quad core is 4 x the processor speed dual core is 2x
