So, For a federal Pell grant if you apply, and get so much for each semester, if you don't take any classes one semester, does the money go back to the government, or does it come back to you since they already "gave" it to you

If you don't take any classes for a semester then the government will not issue any money. Your pell grant automatically adjusts to your amount of schooling/credits...
If you qualify for a full pell grant then you will receive 5550. Of course it's divided. So 2775 per semester. In order to receive the full 2775 for the spring semester then you will have to go to school full time [12+ credits] ...if you are doing less credits [9-11] then it's considered 3/4 time. 6 Credits is half time. Then anything under 6 is part time. So to sum it all up in a nut shell if you are only taking 6 credits [two classes] then you would multiply .50 x 2775 =1388. That would be your estimated pell grant. .75 x2775 if you are going 3/4 time.. .25 x2775 if you are going part time. Your pell fluctuates depending on how many credits you are taking. But will not exceed over 2775 per semester. [twice a year]
Your EFC is 4,721 That's a little high considering you only made 18,626. But the school gives financial aid based on your EFC. What I suggest it try to make corrections to your application. Also, if you are filed as a dependant. that's a factor too. Dependant in financial aid terms means that you are still receiving some support from your family. So if you make 18,626 financial aid will assume that your still receiving money from your parents.
If you don't take any classes for that semester, then you don't receive anything. Why would you?
