I have lost 50 pounds -- and had a ball! -- by riding a bicycle! No, I do NOT mean in the gym or on an exercycle. That sucks and is boring. But riding a bike outdoors, feeling the wind in your hair, watching trees and flowers go by, especially in the early morning and/or twilight time, is so much fun you forget it's exercise! And you can use 500 CALORIES AN HOUR easily, bicycling. Plus you can go bicycling with a friend, and it's twice as much fun, chatting and laughing as you go.
Depending on your physical condition, it may be hard at first. I could only go 1-2 miles the first week. But I now do 30 miles a day without much problem, and have lost SO many inches on my butt and thighs and belly!
It is also important to get a bike that fits you well, or the riding will make you really uncomfortable! Take your bike to a local bike shop; most of them will see if it fits you for free. Try different bicycle seats until one feels pretty good, and then go for it!
I'm in my 60s and was fat all my life until I found bicycling. If I can do it, anybody can.

Good luck.
Doing push up and sit ups while you are watching American Idol Dance to the songs that the idols are singing is also a great source of exercise.
Usually the funnest way to work out is playing a sport with friends, and actually being competitive. I suggest basketball. Funnest in my opinion.
Put on some old time rock and roll and just dance like a fool .
