I want to get a gas powered scooter but I want to know I there are any laws I should know of like: are they legal in ny? Do you need any licenses or license plates?how old do u have to be to ride one?
when you mean gas powered scooter laws, do you mean a moped or vespa type or are you talking about the stand up gas scooter ones like the bladez brand and goped. im not sure about the laws on new york but if your talking about the stand up gas scooter models like the bladez and goped i just mentioned, in california, you just need to have a helmet on, i think at least 16 years old, although they probably wouldnt care if you were younger as long as your obeying all laws and regulations, you have to ride on the right hand side of the street or bike lane, and only can go on the sidewalk when you need to cross a street when the light is red. you dont need a license plate. the speed limit is i think 25 mph but i have a bladez gas scooter myself that can go up to 33 mph and i usually go faster than 25 mph so i dont think they care about this that much but i do wear a helmet, stay on bike lane and obey all other laws.
but i mean, what part of new york do you live in? the busy city part or the more open areas? reason being is that the stand up gas scooters probably would be a little annoying to ride in a crowded city like place of new york, a moped or vespa type would be more suitable and also quieter. the stand up gas scooters usually have loud 2 stroke engines / 4 stroke engines and it would look awkward in a city like place like brooklyn for instance.
On the whole a a hundred twenty five or 250 cc scooter is required for parkway use, it needs to be in a position to maintain freeway speeds, the small ones are not able to, so there fore are banned from highway use.

Depends a lot on whether you mean the "razor type" or a real scooter, like a Yamaha Vino.
