I purchased a Compaq Presario V2000 for around $650 at the beginning of the school year for college. I was amazed at how good of a deal it was- it's a 14" with 80gb, 1024mb memory, 3 usb ports, 128mb video memory, and of course wireless and all of today's "defaults". I've had absolutely no problems with it. I got it from walmart and have seen a few others since then, so give it a look!
