one minute my laptop is working fine the next, all my picture files and programs are gone!!!!! i restarted my computer and tried logining into admin but it kept saying failed and logged out! I dont know what it is but, I really need help! PLEASE! everything on my desktop and my background and even internet explorer is gone :( help me please!
Update:the internet icon was also deleted. I cant find windows defender either, i think it was deleted as well. I have norton, and it said i had 4 risks when i clicked to fix, it wouldnt let me log in to admin. Safe mode didnt do anything for me, it wanted me to reconnect to my internet network but i'm afraid if i type the password, it might send a virus through my network, that is, if it is a virus. :(

Check to see if you can access your computer in Safe Mode. Usually holding down the f8 will work to get into the startup menu. Choose safe mode. Then try System Restore, if you get in. Maybe it will set up to a previous day and be okay.
If your Windows Explorer got corrupted, you will need to do a repair on your Windows Explorer.
You will need to re install Windows and do a "repair", not a fresh install. A repair just replaces the systems files, and cleans up the reigistry, but leaves your files intact. But even at that, I hope you had them backed up. Always backup, if you can, before you do a repair. In your case, it may not be possible. But hopefully, your files will be okay after a repair.
It will cleanup the registry and install Windows Explorer fresh and hopefully solve your problem.
You should have someone help you do a repair, if you have never done it. You will need the Windows disc and the Certification Code COA
what user name account do you usally use? ADMIN?
if you didn't set any user accounts or password then click on the user admin and if it asks for a password put admin or administrator. Or google windows xp or whatever your windows version is...default admin password .
It seems like your logged out of your admin account and that account is what you commonly used so the stuff isn't gone it's just that you don't have permission to see the items that belongs to just that user.
Sounds like you've got a virus/spyware. If you can login to your computer and get onto the internet, use one of the free on-line virus scanners to remove whatever it is.
Good Luck
Sounds like your hard drive is gone. That means that everything else is also gone. There is a possibility that it is just corrupted. A fast test would be to boot to a live Linux CD then try to read your hard drive. If it is readable then it is fixable.
run you Anti Virus software after a update, then malwarebytes.org, then ccleaner, restart if it is the same - then try doing a system restore to when you know you had the data, if that does not work you can try recuva.com for there free utility to find lost data.
try to boot in safe mode and see if anything comes up if so i bet it is virus
