If you want to completely remove the viruses then make rescue CD or floppy disks from your existing anti virus software immediately! Then insert the rescue CD, and give priority to CD-ROM from your motherboard menu (access by hitting DEL). It will perform complete virus scan and remove virus on your computer(without logging in the windows) even if they cannot be deleted!, as you are not logged onto windows neither you are running safe mode (rescue CD or floppy is necessary for this).
Another method is logging in the recovery console (you have to know your administrator password for that, if any) accessed from windows XP CD-ROM, and then running a command line version of your anti-virus software(if any).
Best is avira (free and powerful than any other software available till now!!), and second best is norton anti virus.
Download avira antivirus free edition from http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Personal-Fre... and make rescue CD. These 2 methods are best, clean and powerful than turning on the safe mode and performing a virus scan.
Same happend to me
When i was surfing on the net Anti virus xp windows popup
automatically scanned and generate a fake report that you have this much of anti virus
and after that it download some files on my computer in c:/windows/downloaded/
as soon as download finish my desktop turns to red all icons gone
"Your computer is at risk" title was written on the screen
I found a method to close this screen just drag the mouse to the top right corner and a tab will appear close it and back to normal but again appear on startup but to get rid of it
downloade Kaspersky antivirus 2009 to your computer or free AVG antivirus on (link below) . By the way i am using Kaspersky and everything is stable.
Ok, you can try the other answers above i.e. pressing F8 as soon as the computer starts to load up, and go to safe mode or safe mode with networking. Depending on the computer you might want to call technical support and see what they tell you. But be careful because sometimes they can put the computer at more risk than it already is because most of them don't know what the actual problem is and they tell you to try every method they know. If you have Dell they will send out a technician if it dosen't work, or you kcan find a computer tech on your own that will clean out your system. Either way all of your files will be deleted unless you ask them to save them.
Anitvirus XP is a fiarly recent trojan - the good new is that it's not actually all that difficult to get rid of.
The bad news is that it sounds like it's killing the explorer process, which won't make removal any easier.
If you go into the boot options, select 'safe mode with networking', and then boot up - explorer may or may not start working. If it doesn't, you will have to manually start explorer.exe through task manager.
From this point, you can download and run one of the removal tools - there are quite a few about.
If you can, when your computer is booting up... hit F8 a number of times, after that initial logo splash screen, but before the windows start splash screen. If you do it right, you will see a menu with a list of boot choices. You want Safe Mode with Network....
Once windows starts into Safe Mode, open your browser, and visit http://ww.malwarebytes.org/ and download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Then visit http://www.spybot.net/ and download Spybot Search & Destroy. Install these two programs, and update their scanning databases. Then, Unplug your computer from your modem. Then have each scan your computer (Malwarebytes first, then Spybot) one at a time, and remove anything that is found.
You should be good to go after that.
If you can't get to safe mode, you can still download these cleaners and us them, however it may take several passes of each to remove the infection. Antivirus XP is malware itself, and presents a fake list of infections, in order to make you purchase the software.
sounds like you have picked a nasty one
restart the machine and press f8 when the bios screen disappears and enter safemode and then try a system restore to a point before your troubles started and if this is ok then switch off system restore and then switch it back again to remove viruses that may be in your latest system restore files
then do a viirus scan and make sure that everything is ok...i would return to safemode and do the scan as the least amount of drivers/programs are open
if you cant get into safemode then you will need the system discs
I take it you have an up to date anti virus programme on the PC.
Shut down
Restart - during restart keep tapping the F8 key until you get to the option to choose SAFE MODE.
When you see this option select it and allow to start - then run your anti virus programme fully.
Allow it to find the virus and delete it when complete.
Try that
Do you have security installed.
Go to safe mode, enter 'mrt' into the run commands and scan for malware, next goto control panel > security > scan for infections with windows defender
