I am moving to cornwall as a job opportunity has come up, but need to move by the end of august. I was in a 6 month contract with the letting agency but the contract was up for renewal march just gone and i havnt renewed it. The contract stated if i wanted to leave id have to pay £100 plus rent untill a new tennant was found (is this legal?) As currently im not in a contract does that mean i can just pay whats owed for that month with no issues and get my deposit back?
thanks
jon

You need to check how much notice you are required to give where you are. If you move before the notice is up (ie you need to give 30 days notice but can only give 15) then I suspect the contract provision would kick in (100 lbs plus rent thru the notice period). If you give the allowed notice where you are then they'll charge you nothing for that (could still charge you for damage and unpaid bills).
