Mormons do not even believe that the jews are the chosen people. So why is this retard constantly talking about protecting Israel from non-existent enemies at the expensive of american lives and tax payer money

well, if he said otherwise, he'd have a lot of problems. plus, of course it would waste all that time and energy the Republicans have spent trying to say that Obama is no friend of Israel.
It's from a political standpoint not a religious one. They are our allies so we protect them. Plus if we protect Israel he has better shot at getting reelected
Mormons look upon Israel as brothers and sisters. Both Mormonism and Judaism were set up by God.
Anciently, the gospel was only taken to the house of Israel through the church that Christ set up and then after the death of Christ, Peter received a revelation to take the gospel to the gentiles. Except for a small percentage, the Jews rejected Christ and were scattered and persecuted throughout the world.
In these last days, the gospel is taken to the gentiles through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Except for a small percentage, the gospel will be rejected by the gentiles and at Christ's coming will be taken to the Jews.
Hence fulfilling Christs prophecy that the first shall be last and the last shall be first.
