ok so i like astronomy and i was wondering how scientists can look 100s of millions of light years. are the telescopes that powerful? its just scary that we are in the outer arm of the milky way, and we can look at other galaxies that are like dots on a big picture

We can see whatever light travels to us from deep in space. Telescopes DO NOT reach out deep into space. Telescopes only gather the light that travels to us from deep in space.
.
They have a lot of methods, actually. They have HUGE observatories with ginormous telescopes. It's difficult to see everything very clear through Earth's atmosphere, so they launch telescopes off of Earth and out into the solar system, so the telescopes in space are even FURTHER away so they can see that much farther than we can.
Big expensive telescopes that would never fit in your bedroom
