If you abstracted information about your 6th grade class it would be modeling. You could take the heights of all the students and abstract that information to a graphical model. A scientific model seeks to represent empirical objects, phenomena, and physical processes in a logical and objective way. Empirical just means that it's gathered information. It could be gathered by observation or experimentation. So then you find a way to show that information in the form of an equation (math), visual representation could be a graph, or you could describe in terms of concepts. This is what I meant by "abstracted information"
