He bit him and poison in the vampires fangs/teeth runs throughout his body and starts to change him into a vampire. The changing takes three days to complete and when he is done he is a vampire. Edward was almost dead from Influenza when he was made into a vampire.

Carlisle replaced Edward, Esme, Roaslie, and Emmett. Roaslie did not change Emmet she in basic terms kept him from the bear and then took him to Carlisle to have him change Emmet for her.

what do you mean how? well what happened is while edward was human and 17, his mother and him were dying of the spanish influenza. before edward's mother died, she said to carlisle (who was a vampire and doctor already) "save edward in the special way you can" or something like that. carlisle assumed that edward's mother knew that he was a vampire. he granted edward's mother's dying wish by biting edward. he was sure the venom would strengthen edward and thus stop him from dying~!!

Edward was already dying and Carlisle sucked his blood out of him and replaced it with vampire venom. He saved him from dying, but saved him as a vampire. It is supposedly very painful when they turn into a vampire.

when edward was really sick while he was little carlisle didnt want edward to die...so to save him from dying he turned edward into a vampire so he could live!

When Edwars' mother was dying she begged Carlisle to save her son .she tells him"do what ever you can to save him" Carlisle mentioned this in new moon

edward is just about to go to the morge but carlisle needed someone to be with so carlisle changes him you need to read breaking dawn to figure it out

carlisle changes edward when ed has yellow fever back in 1917 (i think) b/c he is dying.
