Hi we have had my bird for over a year now and he bites and we can't pet his back or feathers. It isn't his fault, he was attacked by a cat and his claw is messed up now from it. That was his first owner, and the second grabbed him by the head when he was bad. He is growing more affectionate of us and is straying to eat millet spray from my hand but I wish to hold him and show him we wont hurt him. Any tips or help for a bird with a scary past?

Chelsea, You are on the right path. The main thing to do is to gain his trust. and I hope you do not have a cat? I have to parrots and I would never own a cat! Your parrot is so afraid because he was mauled by this beast. Can you imagine being a little parrot and being almost killed by something that 5 6 7 times bigger? What you are doing is correct talk to him calmly offer him treats try to pet him. Maybe let him out of his cage in a closed safe room with you for an hour or so, supervised of course! Eventually he will know you are not going to hurt him and he will come around just be calm be gentle and be patient. I hope this helps a little bit!
