I had two Green Cards. I always kept them in the safest place I had access to. In my particular case that was a locked firesafe box inside a locked steel cabinet. Pretty impossible to lose a Green Card this way. The only way you want to take it out is on the way straight to the airport to catch an international flight, and when you return from an international flight. I don't know where you kept your Green Card, but probably not in a safe place.
Replacing the Green Card via I-90 form costs $450, a fee that will only be waived if your combined household income is below 150% of the poverty line. Since you are a minor, you probably live with a parent of both parents. Ask your parent to lend you the money and pay them back once you can.
In addition, for work and I-9 purposes, you don't even need to show your Green Card if you can submit a state-ID and an unrestricted SS card. Google "I-9 form" and check out the three lists of documents accepted for this purpose. The Green Card is a List A document, the state-ID or driver's license a List B document, and the unrestricted SS card a List C document. A = B+C, so if you don't want to show your Green Card, you don't have to if you have the other two documents.
You can apply for a fee waiver but if they say no then you will not be able to work at most places until you can show a VALID green card.
Where do you think you lost it..........
I-912, fee waiver.
