Well the processor in it now is an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ and it has an integrated NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE. I don't know the name of the motherboard. I was wondering if I were to buy a combo pack with a new motherboard and an intel i5 2500k would they simply just plug right in or is there a certain size my PC requires. I also would like to know if I should buy a new OS for the motherboard. I am also getting a new graphics card but I'm not real sure what to purchase. Any help is greatly appreciated, because I hardly know anything about this subject. :)

Hi Thomas
Compaq's SR Series stuff is all at least 6 years old. So if you're asking if you can just replace the mainboard and cpu and use your other components, then the answer is no. About all you could possibly hope to use would be the case which cannot wear out and maybe the hard drive and the dvd drive if they are sata and not ide. As for the power supply, it will not provide 1/3 of the power needed to run today's equipment. Memory will also be incompatible. Then there's the xp operating system which is also very old and is coming to the end of it's cycle and soon will not be supported by microsoft anymore, so yes, you would need a new os.
A lot of the time, when you're dealing with an old or older system, you can upgrade minor things like installing a piece or two of ram or a new hard drive, but it seems to me that by the time you bought everything you'd need and want that you'd more than likely have spent more than if you were to buy something new.
Hope this helps a little.
