Islamic law is rooted deeply in the teachings of the Islamic religion. Since it is a religion, it is perverted by its clergy to accomplish the will of the clergy.
Western law is rooted deeply in money. If you don't have it, you can't use it. If you do have it, then you can use law to abuse, impoverish, or otherwise damage the poor (by poor I'm including the "middle" class and the "lower-upper" class).
They basically are two extremes on the moral bar. The laws of the west benefit those who are valued the greatest, the laws of Islam benefit those who control the religion.
Both will be viewed as barbaric in a hundred years from now, much in the same way that we view the role of the barber (who was also your surgeon, if you didn't know) in the middle ages.
Maybe they're not very different. Both restrict the freedom of the individual. None of them work. Probably only those legal systems in Latin America are the only ones that work and let people live happily.

Western law is not largely based on a religious text. ISlamic law is often a mere excuse for torture and savagery.
And abuse of women.
