So since I got my first iPod I had shared an apple ID with my dad so that I could put in his credit card information and whatever. But now I really need to get my own account because its getting too confusing... is there a way for me to make my own account but to get my purchases transferred over to my new account? If not what is the best way to go about getting my new account without losing all my music! help!

You can copy your music from your iPod onto your own computer. The most convenient and secure way is to use an iPod-to-computer transfer program to help you, like this handy one called Tansee iPod Transfer http://backupios.tumblr.com/
Many of my friends are using it for its easy and safe transfer. The whole process goes as follows:
Firstly install this program on your computer. When you plug your iPod to the computer, this program will instantly display all songs and videos on the iPod.You simply select what you wish to transfer and click "Copy" button. Done. All your selected files will be copied to your computer safely. Now you can easily add those songs and videos to your iTunes library. See detailed guide.
More importantly, this won't overwrite any original files on your iPod. And all song names are preserved.
It's easy that it just need you to copy the purchased music from your Dad's computer to yours.
If you mean transfer them from iPod to the new account, you need to use iTunes assistant(at least I think so), iMediago, which can help you to transfer the music from iPod to iTunes (new account) without losing anything.
