Okay, so I'm getting my first car soon. My parents actually want me to get a new car, and are willing to pay half of it. I have enough to pay for half of a Rio. And before I say anything else, this is the car I want, people who think this is a bad car, at least give me a reason as to why. Anyways, if you own a Kia Rio, what do you like and dislike about it? I think it's really cute, not terribly expensive, and it's just kind of unique in it's own little way. I grew up driving pick-up trucks on my grandparents farm, and as much as I love them, I'd really like a small car, seeing as I'm a high school student who doesn't have a lot of money for gas and such. And no, I'm not a stuck up rich kid who NEEDS a brand new car, I'd actually be just fine with a used one in good condition. Thanks!

It's not that kiddo. It's the fact that these cars aren't well built. Meaning...they weren't a good car when new let alone used.
Depending on your budget there are a couple things you could look at used and possibly new. The idea is to get something NEW so that you have a warranty in case it ends up being a p.o.s. New (low end) you might want to look at a kia soul which is much better built than previous kias. Used: Civic, Corolla, Focus, (4cyl) Accord.
None of these are "sexy" cars...but you don't need that, you need a "point a to point b" car.
If you want a new small car for almost the same price get a Smart Car. For a non-hybrid the gas mileage is great, the build quality is superb and are great looking little cars. The Kia is very boring and the lack of build quality will nip you in the butt in a few years when it starts falling apart. The base model is very cheap yes, but to add any kind of power locks, windows, or airconditioning you add thousands making it not so cheap anymore. The smart car would def. be what you are looking for and will hold their value 3x better than the kia. If you absolutley have to have seating for 5 the Nissan Versa would be your next best bet and is just as cheap as the Rio but with Nissan quality.
