i7-2640M vs. i7-2760QM
i7-2640M
Dual Core
2.80 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.50 GHz
Slightly more expensive than the option below
i7-2760QM
Quad Core
2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.50 GHz
They both seem to have the same turbo boost frequency and seeing as the latter is quad core and cheaper it seems to be the better option. Any opinions? Is turbo boost just a marketing gimmick and should I just go by their base frequencies, what do you guys think?

The workload on newer apps is spread among 4 cores on the quad, so it's definitely better. Obviously, that comes with a hefty price. ;P Quad Core on 3.5GHz is pretty beast.
Of course it's a marketing gimmick, but it actually works, quite well.
If you have the budget, go with the quad.
Dual to Quad core in 99% of current games is a minimal performance increase, they just don't use all 4 cores yet. Dual core i7 is lacking in L3 Cache though, which is huge for a lot of new games. (Considering both these laptops have the same graphics card)
