The computer I installed the software on for my router has crashed and the disc is missing for some bizarre reason.
I want to update the firmware on the router but when I try to from the linksys site It says I have to open the web based utility or something

the "web based utility" is simply the embedded web server in the device.
Assuming you KNOW it's IP address in the internet explorer address bar enter it, for example instead of answer.yahoo.com type 192.168.1.1 if that was it's IP address
Normally, you update the firmware for the router directly from the router console, not from a disc.
Either go to linksys's website and download the users manual or follow the directions below.
Go to start - Run and type "cmd". From the command prompt, you type "ipconfig". This will give you your IP configuration.
Take the number after "Default Gateway" and type it into your browsers address bar.
This will take you to the login for your router. Then you just have to enter the username and password. This is usually either "admin" and "password", or for your model, blank username and admin as the password.
Then from there, you can go to the update or advanced page and it will have options for you to update the firmware.
