I'm going to be buying a new desktop and new computer soon. I'm pretty sure that I am going to go with a Doghouse systems desktop, but as far as laptops go, I am at a loss. I have used a mac laptop for 4-ish years now.
While the OS isn't bad, the actual computer itself is miserable. Parts of it flake off, the speakers are almost shot, batteries barely work anymore even after replacing etc. etc. I thought about getting a PC laptop, considering that I am going to be getting a PC desktop, but I am at a loss as well.
I don't know what companies are good, Doghouse systems are great for gaming, but what about for a multi-purpose laptop? With the wide range of companies out there, I'm not sure who I can trust.
Should I just get a macbook pro (considering it has bootcamp now.) and hope that apple has made their computers better, or should I be looking elsewhere.
I would really like objective answers, fan-boy-isms aren't appreciated.

I would go with a PC laptop coz is MUCH cheaper. apple is over priced man after that i would go get linux mint 8 and install it on teh laptop instead of winblows. linux is unix based ( similar to apple) its opensource- free-and all software on it is free. it comes preinstalled with everything you need. great community and it hit a higher market share than apple this year. www.linuxmint.com and if you wanna learn more go to www.ubuntu.com ( i prefer linuxmint - based on ubuntu + codecs+flash+every thing preinstalled).
Recently, Apple laptops have been pretty high quality as far as their construction is concerned.
I think I know what version of the Apple laptop you are talking about, as we had a few at work that had chipped paint and overall poor design. I personally own a Macbook G4 and the aluminum case is pretty sturdy and there is no issues with the paint.
The thing is, you are paying a premium for a Macbook. They are often $300-400 more expensive than a similarly equipped PC laptop. But, you also get some neat features like their MagSafe power plugs which virtually eliminate the "broken AC jack" issue that is very common among laptops.
It is a tough decision, you can save good money by sticking with a PC laptop, but you get a decent, sturdy machine with the Macbook.
I recommend Toshiba.
Windows 7 more stable than Mac OS X Snow Leopard. It has never crash since I install it. Finding the printer driver was a pain, but once that is done, everything else it painless. My Toshiba, I bought when Windows Vista first came out, serve me well (except the Vista part). I upgrade it to Windows 7 and it is better than ever. It has never fail on me.
My MacBook is a different story. First it developed hairline cracks, then small pieces starts chipping off. Apple said that it is not cover by the warranty. I was so mad at the guy I want to whack his head. He insist that it was caused by "abused". Sure it is; no wonder my Toshiba is still in perfect shape today.
Also, it first came with Leopard. It does crash, but rarely. Better than Windows Vista at the time. I upgrade it to Snow Leopard and that's there the nightmare begin. It crash on me when doing basic things like Mail. Safari suddenly hang on me. Even TextEdit crash on me for God's sake. Photoshop was impossible to use; it hang on loading. I had to reinstall Leopard on it because Snow Leopard was too buggy to use. Perhaps Snow Leopard is to Mac, what Vista is to Windows.
