The first 2 guys are wrong, you have malware.Go to www.threatfire,com, download and install threatfire.Run a full scan which will take a long time but when it's done, your problem will be fixed.
Yep, the first poster hit the nail on the head.
You have a few different options. First you could run a repair install of windows, to do so you would need a normal XP disc and to follow these directions:
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall....
Next would be to simply run the factory restore that is built into most store-bought computers. Read the users manual.
dude ...
Someone might a have played a joke with you .... for a moment when the desktop loads jus right click anywhere n go to Arrange icons by > check if Show desktop icons are enabled if yes then its a spyware .... dwnld Spybot Search n destroy or do any of the ways the other guys told
Well whenever that happens to me (yes i do have the same problem too although rarely), i just get task manager up then File ---> Run------> explorer.exe ------>enter, and then i got my desktop back.
Obviously this is a temporary solution, so just copy all the files and reformat the computer
Golfer2 might be right about that. Try his suggestion first.

Well, you could force it to run if it won't run. Try this. BUT! be careful.
Go to START>RUN>regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\
Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Place your mouse pointer on an empty space in the right panel then right click. Point to NEW>String Value.
Rename the registry as "explorer" then hit enter.
Then Double Click the new registry and on the value data type all of this
"C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe"
Restart your pc and see if it works.
The process "explorer.exe" is probably messed up. This happened to me, best thing is to reinstall windows unfortunately.
try going into safemode, commence tapping f8 at boot. if you're in a position to get into safemode, you ought to be in a position to do equipment restoration to a earlier kept restoration element previous to at the same time as the region began.
