when im driving down the road it feels like the gears are sort of clicking in and out of gear quickly. the engine isn't getting the horse power it really should and there is times i have to go petal to the floor to keep my speed from going down. somtimes when its warm i can feel it click into place and it'll speed up and act like it should.
im not shifting to soon. this trans has more miles then i know on it. i'd guess about 260,000.

The tans is simply giving out. It called skipping gears and is very common on old trucks. You could run it down to the end and wait till it brakes down on the road. But u will want to get it rebuilt. There are Many places just look on google. They will take the tans and make it like new. It may cost $100 to $500 or so depending on the model and all that. The other option is buying a used(junk yard) or new. This may cost more and take more time. See who will do the rebuilt and how much, call different places and prices first, also ask about a warrenty.
Just guessing here but your issue sounds more like an engine issue versus transmission. Loss of power doesn't happen in a transmission it occurs in the engine. Since it sounds like its an intermittent problem I'd suspect an ignition or fuel related cause. Remember the transmission is reliant on the engine for power, all it does is transfer the engine's power to the drive line. If the engine has problems the transmission just transfers whatever power its receiving to the drive line so if the truck won't speed up its not likely to be the transmission, unless its an automatic... yours isn't.
