OK, so right now I am in a bit of a stressful situation. The applications are almost around their due date for applying to the nice chicago public schools, like payton, northside, lane, whatever. Anyways, my parents both say that they really want me to go to Payton, but I really like Northside. To me Payton just seems more competitive and uptight. (This may tottally not be true, but it's just the way of how it looks to me). Please help me decide. I work best in a calm, cool enviorment.
The reasons why I don't like Payton:
- It's automatically everybodys first choice, and it scares me how hard it is to get in.
- It seems a little overally competitive for me
- The lockers are really small! :)
The reasons why I like Northside:
- My best friend wants to go there too
- I like the look and feel of the school a lot better, it just makes me feel the most comfertable.
- I feel like the people aren't as competitive
- The students have a bigger voice, ie student goverment
Please help me. I have no idea which one to put first and I'm really freaking out. Thanks

First of all what were your Isat scores. Be realistic in where you can get. Sorry, but actually Northside is the super competitive one and hardest to get into. I knew someone with 989 and didn't get in, but that was with the old process. Payton is a bit smaller than Northside, but more people apply to it partly because of location. Public trans to NCP is terrible unless you can walk. I got 586/600 from the 1st 2 components so you should just be calm. Know what census tract you're in too. 4th is the most competitive. Ultimately it's you're choice, but you need like at least, at least, and i could be wrong An 880/900 to get into northside, maybe even higher. Good luck, but I'm your competition too.
Kuyaflip has some critical points there.
Northside is harder to get into, and if you think Payton is up-tight, Northside is 40 times more up-tight.
I have friends who go to both, Payton gives you more free time, as opposed to Northside, where you can get 4-5 hours of homework. However, Northside has a block schedule, and
it's all spaced out.You have to be rational and include more information for us to help you:
Isat scores, 7th and 8th grade grades, and your Tier.
Yes and no. In order to go tuition free you must be a Chicago resident. If you would like to attend a Chicago Public School you must pay tuition. All of the schools you mentioned except for Hancock, are selective enrollment schools for which you need to apply and take a placement test early in the 8th grade year. If you have not done this it is highly unlikely that you will be accepted.
Interesting thread!
