Oblivion 4 frequently crashes, my specification are
Mercury Motherboard
P4 2.4 Ghz
1.2 Gb Ram
Nvidia 6200 256 ram
80 Gb Hdd
My friend suggested it may be due to overheating, so i kept my side panel of PC open, so that heat would escape, but still the game keeps crashing 10 to 15 mins of game play.
To my surprice i found that game was stable when i overclocked my CPU from 2.4 Ghz to 2.5 Ghz.
by increasing the frequency and voltage setting in the BIOS.
now i have certaing Queries, anybody who is answering please make sure to answer them ALL.

Sorry, my heat escaping solution didnt work.
1.) Oblivion has never crashed during my 70 hours of play. Not even once.
2.) No, Oblivion does not crash on console systems. My friends have them for PS3 and 360, they have never said anything about crashing.
3.) Why are you installing mods? you should be installing updates.
4.) Your motherboard is an old one, as for why your lan card stopped working. I have no idea.
5.) Never heard any problems about Obscure 2.
The best thing to do is to upgrade your pc such as buying a new video card and a power supply.
Check out newegg.com for upgrade components. they have great deals.
(to above) virus has nothing to do with the game crashing.
You're specs are alittle below par for a high-league game like Oblivion, but so are mine and I play it as well. I have had this crashing problem, but it was because I used a friends disc; the newer game discs come with security devices that make it hard to use them on multiple computers (or multiple times on one computer). Sometimes (in my case) it is a virus that affects gameplay and makes it hard to enjoy it. I ran a virus scan, fixed the problem, and have been ravaging Cyrodil ever since.
