Sounds like you are experiencing braxton hicks contractions, other wise known as false labor. They are a sign that your uterus is warming up for the big event. Drink plenty of old fashioned water and rest as much as you can.

Your mucus plug can exit your body anytime between the last month of pregnancy to right before the baby is born. It's not always an indicator since many women don't lose their plug until their water breaks. Chances are you will begin early labor soon.

If your contractions start coming in regular intervals (time them) then it's time to see your doctor. Your getting so close to your delivery date that you should probably get checked if you experience these pains again.
