For an essay in English, i need examples of when historical figures took responsibility for their actions. I picked to do mine on presidents. So, which president and what time/event did he take responsibility for something he directly/indirectly did?

I believe Kennedy publicly admitted responsibility for the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.
In 1950 Nixon dirtied his hands in election funding, That became an issue in 1952 when Nixon was announced as a Vice President candidate. The Press had a field day with the issue; Nixon always a finger pointer of graft and calling everyone a "commie" didn't set well!
So in 1952 he went to a large LA TV broadcaster and drew the largest audience of histories record, side stepped the real issue with a warm fuzzy story about not returning a dog named 'Patches' and found a patterned way to lie to the American public. Even as a 4 year old I could tell he was a blatant liar and history proved me very correct! But then maybe it was just the same old gray suit against the some old gray background that made him look so poor against Kennedy 8 years later?
On March 4, 1987, President Reagan addressed the American people from the Oval Office about the Iran-Contra Scandal and took responsibility for his Administration's participation. He famously said: “Now, what should happen when you make a mistake is this: You take your knocks, you learn your lessons, and then you move on. That’s the healthiest way to deal with a problem… You know, by the time you reach my age, you’ve made plenty of mistakes. And if you’ve lived your life properly — so, you learn. You put things in perspective. You pull your energies together. You change. You go forward.”
Truman when he sacked MacArthur.
