My old back computer, running xp, works fine in every detail but one. If right click on a folder it takes minutes to open the pop-up menu. Similarly, if I am in a tree window and try to do anything with the folder from the pull down menu it takes forever. It does not matter if the folder is empty or filled with files. I have no problem working with individual files within a folder, no other problems with right any menus, etc. The problem is limited to using menus at the folder level.
No virus, spyware, malware, reloaded xp, removed all upgrades and returned it to it's original hardware configuration, the only difference between the way it came out of the box and now is a new power-supply added a few years ago when the other gave up the ghost. I build my own computers and am pretty knowledgeable but this one has be baffled. It isn't a big deal as I only run this one for legacy games, but i'd like to figure it out.

Well 3 things come to my Mind..... Virtual Memory, RAM & svchost.exe
On the RAM do you have atleast 128mb of RAM?
Its best to make a Custom Paging File for your Virtual Page (If VM has/had been a issue) min. 1500 and max 3000 would be Plenty.
Now, the svchost.exe (When you re-did the XP) Did you rename the Computer the SAME name as before?? (Why do I ask?) Well, if you name your PC the same name-fom b4- svchost.exe will duplicate itself up over 8-20+ svchost.exe running at Once in the Task Manager.
Oh a 4th! Tell me your running Atleast XP SP1 ? Ive Noticed that XP runs like a Snail until Sp1 was put on..
Good Luck-
